Elaboration of dissemination strategies to increase the impact of internet-based information for
non-chemical crop protection within sustainable and organic agriculture programmes.
Purpose
- to increase the use of computer-based information for non-chemical crop protection by
agricultural training and extension services
- to increase the application of non-chemical crop protection practices by the farmers and thus
contribute to the reduction of pesticide use and to the strengthening of the organic
production
Objectives
- Strategies are elaborated on how information on non-chemical crop protection methods could be
transported more effectively from the internet to the farmers through local advisors or IPM/FFS
facilitators - using the example of the internet information service on non-chemical crop
protection of PAN Germany, which is currently under development.
- The outcome of this workshop serves as a model for other IPM, IPM-related and organic
agriculture activities and it gives an orientation to other similar information management
activities.
Strategy
Identified contacts from IPM and IPM-related projects of various IPM initiatives determine the
information chain for internet-based information presented in the "Online Information Service for
Non-chemical Pest Management for the Tropics" of PAN Germany, in order to enrich IPM and
IPM-related activities and to increase the adoption of IPM and non-chemical control methods.
